Sherbrooke House
London
2012
A former council home in Bethnal Green, the three-bed maisonette in Sherbrooke House needed both an interior refurbishment and a solution to the limited living space available on its ground floor. Russian For Fish adjusted the layout to make it open-plan, removing walls thus converting previously unused circulation space into much need living space. The project’s limited budget created opportunities for material ingenuity – a basket-weave timber-block floor unites the space, whereas the construction of built-in furniture serves a dual purpose, maximising storage space and creating a subtle separation between the entranceway and the new dual-aspect living kitchen.
